Dr. Poon 12 week update

Can't believe I am still on Phase 1 of the Dr. Poon diet. I went in on Tuesday morning and lost another 5 pounds. I am so happy and very determined to continue. I want to be my ideal weight and just be healthy.

Dr. Poon wants me to be 140 and I think I would be happier with 150. I guess we will see what happens once I hit that road. It will be a little while to get there but I have all the faith in myself that I could do this.

Since starting 12 weeks ago I have lost a total of 32.5 pounds. Everyone is starting to notice, I am not happy because everyone is noticing but am delighted that I am feeling like I have a lot more energy along with feeling better about myself. I am also taking the time out to take care of me. This doesn't usually happen but finally now that the boys are 6 and 2.5 it's me time. Before I know they will not need me to clean, feed or hang with them and where's that going to leave me? This way I can take care of enjoying life with them as much as possible and also taking some time to get my weight back in check.

If you're reading this blog and are also with Dr. Poon please feel free to leave a comment with your e-mial address. I'll certainly contact you. Everyone needs a friend that totally understands.

Yay. Congratulations. You must feel wonderful. I lost 50 lbs and felt like a whole new person. YIPEEE you. BYW - - who is Dr. Poons? Local diet guy/gal?

Veronica said...

@ Mellisa, Thanks, yes I do feel wonderful. I have a long way to go but am thrilled to be on this new way of life.

Dr. Poon is an asian doctor who is covered under OHIP. He is specialist in weight lost and management. His program works for those who choose to stick to it. It's hard to get in to see him once your in you should count your blessings as he doesn't take anyone's BS. You cheat you're out.

Hi Veronica,

Just started (day 1). I am having a tough time figuring out what to do for breakfast on the run. The quick bowl of Kellogs Special K with milk was so convenient. Now I can't think of anything to have that's equally fast for the rush rush mornings. Any suggestions?

Daraious

Veronica said...

@ Daraious - Yes, I know breakfast was the problem and sometimes continues to be but I did find it a little easier when I purchased the SMAPS cereal from Dr. Poon's office. It costs about $14 (If I remember correctly) per box but eatting just 1/2 cup works out great and it also lasts a long time. Totally wroth purchsing.

I also do the eggs, better than beacon beacon. Only eat these twice a week (7days) and I also only have two clices instead of the 3 they are telling you is the suggested amount per serving.

I hope this helps.

Unknown said...

Thanks for the response Veronica. Went to the Brampton office/store and picked up a bunch of stuff for an exhorbitant $82!!

But the SMAPS is worth it! Actually tastes really good even without milk!

The Bran Crisp Bread... hmmm not so nice and will take a bit of getting used too, as will the Walden's spreads (very strange peanut butter and mayo, but fruit spread is not bad:-)

Thanks again!

Hi there,

I am going to see Dr. Poon today at the Brampton location. I am very excited but a bit nervous too. After reading some of the posts, I am quite motivated :)

Jennifer

Veronica said...

@ Label Me Jenn - Jennifer there is no need to be nervous. Everything is going to be ok. I can understand you feeling that way but I can also tell you that in about a months time you will be delighted that you've changed your lifestyle. It's a blessing.

You can totally do this.

Veronica... congrats to you. I will be starting my Dr. Poon plan as of Monday.. I'm not sure how often you check this but i'm hopeful it's in time. I was wondering if I could ask a big favor of you. I know about the Dr. Poon's store and will be heading there this weekend to do some shopping but do you have a "regular" store grocery list you could send me. A "getting started" list?? Or even better, some meal ideas? I noticed a lot of the recipes in the book have some hard ot find items. In the end, anything you have will be a great help. I just want to get off to a great start.

Hello I just got the referral to see Dr Poon I'm excited but nervous can you tell me what his diet plan is like???? Is it hard??? Is it expensive??? I'm on a budget and can't really spend tons of money on special foods can you bye regular grocery store food???

Veronica said...

@ Tanya - Donèt be nervous as think of this as a lifestyle change and not a diet. The plan is covered by OHIP. The food is your choice to purchase. With this plan you eat regular food from the grcery store. Now the only thing I would suggest is purchase some cookies and snack stuff from the office so that it makes it easier for you not to cheat. I always say it use to cost me some money to buy junk food and now I put that money into healthy eating so it balances itself out.

Good Luck and I look forward to hearing about your loss.

I had my initial consultation yesterday (Sept., 10, 20100 at Dr. Poon's Richmond Hill location. I almost died when they weighed me. I am so ready and determined to feel good about myself again. I love your site and looking forward to cooking some of the dishes that are posted!

Congratulations Veronica. I wish you continued success.

I got a referral from my doctor to see Dr. Poon and have my initial appointment coming up in about three weeks. It does say on his website that not all referrals are necessarily accepted into his program, so I'm crossing my fingers that he deems me qualified. Do you happen to know what the criterias are for acceptance?

Anonymous said...

congratulations.
even i am on his diet and i lost 65 pounds in 4 months =] i am soo happyy, but the weight loss if different for every person and since i recently became obese, it was easy to go back to normal. only 1-2 months left for me. You did a great job. i know it wasnt that easy to do the diet especially if your entire family is eating ice cream, pizza, etc. keep up the good work.

Hi all;
I started Dr.Poon this week, and since I don't eat red meat, fish, allergic to seafood, lamb, pork, the menu is useless. I find myself eating salad for lunch and dinner with chicken, as tuna is not allowed at work, and I'm beginning to feel like a rabbit!! Does anyone know how to read food labels so I can buy similar things at a grocery store? The prices of his food are quite high, so I'd like to see if there is similar versions at a regular grocery store?? I want to go to his seminar on that, but haven't had a chance to yet. Please help!!

@ TRacey - I look forward to hearing about how well you are doing. Keep up the high spirits and only you can do it. Just remember why you are doing it and you will be fine.

Good Luck!

Veronica said...

@ Anon #1 - I guess you would have to hear back from the office on what they look for. I have no idea because I do not work for them at all. I guess if something runs in your family you would be able to go. I am sure they take quite a bit of people who really do not need to be there.

@ Anon #2 - 65 pounds in 4 months wow that is something to celebrate with a Poon cookie. lol You must be male. Usually it takes females a little longer than that to loose. If you're female wow good for you. Congrats anyways that is a great accomplishment.

My family has changed a lot of their eating habits. My only thing is that I am the one with the problem not them so why should I make the whole house come down with me. This is a great test for me as in life there will always be people eating what they would like why not start here at home.

Good Luck to you and keep up your great work!

@ M - Marcie, I would suggest you going into check out what the doctor has to say before you try and purchase items from the store. It seams like you have a limited amount of food you can eat so the best bet is to talk to your doctor and see what the foods are that you are able to eat. Maybe he can suggest some items to help you stick on track. I would say buy any vegtable from the grocery store you should be fine with that. Just cook it in interesting ways. It can be done. Enjoy!!

Hi
I just started Dr. Poon's diet . Today is my fourth day.
I have lost only 1 pound. I am used to eating a fried egg every morning so I am continuing that as 1 egg with yolk per day is allowed. I substituted my regular capsyibread for Dr. Poon's rye and flax bread. It is terrible to taste. Is there any other option that you know of. I will appreciate your suggestions.
Kindest regards,
Rose

Hi Veronica,
I just started the Dr. Poon's Diet today. This is my first week and it feels extremely difficult because I'm not sure what to eat. I'm trying to look up recipe's online and then go grocery shopping so I know exactly what I need to get. Your story and accomplishments have really motivated me and I really hope I can start loosing some weight. I was wondering if you and all the other people who are on this diet work out at the same time? Is it possible for some people to start posting what they eat/how they prepare their meals to help those of us that are just starting. I'm sure if I see new, easy, and exciting meals, I will be more motivated to follow the diet and not set myself up for failure. Thanks for your replies in advance:)

I feel like a rabbit too right now but its working and you do get used to it after a while try different types of greens and add some nuts lemon juice olive oil. Hi,
I started my diet one month ago but I lost totally 7 lbs because I cheated.
Today I promised to myself which obey all the rules.:)
My doctor recommended to take Dr. poon's supplements which helps me to loose weight easily.
I want to know if you tried them before and what is your advise?

thanks,

I started 2 weeks ago,,but did not return because the diet sheet the Doctor gave me was a "shopping" list from the in office "Grocery store"! The doctor at this office said they took over the office of Dr. Poon? I am confused-Is the office and it's practice in Brampton the same as the old office at 343 Wilson Ave? Does anyone know?

After 9 days of "choosing" to rid carbs, fat from my diet I have lost 5 lbs. I exercise every 2nd day and have started doing some gentle, stretch yoga.
I am less breathless when I walk upstairs and am determined to make this work. The secret is "no cheating"..when we do we only cheat ourselves.. Good Luck Everyone

I am trying to do this at home on my own as I don't have the health issues but want something that can help me lose the weight. I would love if you could email me as I have some questions about how long each phase last and what is allowed on phase two thanks

Anonymous said...

Congrats on your success! I'm on day three and finding my info a bit lacking. Where do you suggest is the best source to determine quality of items and a list. (i.e.: turkey bacon, almond milk, etc.) I need more details. : ) I know it's day three, but I already feel better without the sugar. I just don't want to suffer along and find out the food I'm choosing in Phase 1 are possibly wrong. Is the book of value or is there a good online source list? Thanks in advance and much continued success.

I am concerned I might be kicked out of program...although I was happy to lose 4 lbs in two weeks under phase 1/2 diet, Dr. Poon says I should have lost 8-10 lbs :(. So, I am to stay with the same phase as I started. I have another consult in 1 week and I don't feel I have lost the allotted amount.
He does not even explain the meaning of the print out re weight BMI etc...he says go to youtube. Also at Dr. Bernstein they measure your waistline and hips...at Dr. Poon they measure the neck...why? shouldn't it be the waistline that needs measuring? what is the significance of neck?

Hello I am "Anonymous Hopeful" I just joined Dr Poon November 2nd 2017 I go back Nov 14th for my next appointment. So happy i found this Blogg to share with others. I too want to get myself a shopping list for products that compare to those in the special store. I am taking photos of various products and will search them out in other stores . I hear that Metro carries some of these brands. As i did not know where to start with my first week I stuck with egg white ommlette with green veggies no salt olive oil very little. I also purchase the protein powder from the store ..can see later if lower prices elsewhere. All meat I buy is lien. With the hamburger for example i saute my veggies use fresh ginger and add Kikkoman sauce (like soya)for a little flavour. Also can use lean turkey. This is my protein and I make a salad on the side. I have not used any salt or sugar. Also add Fish and perhaps canned tuna in a salad of chicken in a salad. I have been fine up to now but am looking forward to adding more choices. I weigh in tomorrow. Good luck to all and I hope this helped a little.
