We baked

It's snowing like crazy out there and I thought since going to the cupcake camp and things not going so well I would go ahead and make some of my own. Tristan my helper decided that we should make orange coloured cupcakes. I thought can't be so bad so off we started. Well, I should have remembered that cooking with Tristan involves a lot of answering his questions. Which friends he wants to give them away to.

Here's the recipe.
Orange Milk Cupcakes
(Altered from A Baked Creation's 6-inch vanilla milk cake)

1/2 cup of butter
1 cup of sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups of cake flour
1/2 cup of milk
1 teaspoon of orange extract
Paste Food Colouring

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
2. Using a mixer, beat the butter until fluffy. Incorporate the sugar.
3. Add the eggs one at a time and mix.
4. Next, add the flour and milk and mix.
5. Lastly, add in the orange extract and mix well.
6. If you would like to add colour (Orange) or (Mix Red & Yellow) then do so now.
7. Ice-cream scoop sized batter into cupcake lined tin.
8. The cupcakes will bake for 20-25 minutes.
9. Bake until the cake tester came out clean.
Just out of the oven.

Frosted with orange buttercream. Inside view.
Orange Buttercream
(Altered from A Baked Creation's Maple Buttercream)

(Makes about 1 cup)
1/2 a stick of butter
1 cup of confectioner's sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon of orange extract
1 teaspoons of water
1. Using a mixer, cream the butter until smooth.
2. Add in the sugar and mix until well blended.
3. Add the orange extract and mix until smooth and fluffy.
4. Slowly add each teaspoon of water until you achieve the consistency you like.
5. Scoop the buttercream into a piping bag and pipe out onto cupcakes.

Here's were the true test comes in. The boys tried them and here is a picture to show you what they thought.
Tristan only ate half a cupcake. He decided that after he had eaten all the icing that's all that was important.
Ethan had a blast with the cupcake and then gave me a thumbs up. I guess they were good.
